My professional values and identity

Zahra Ali

Professional values and identity are based on very human approach to care. I feel that the first step in effective therapy is to build a sense of empathy with the person that you are working with in order to feel seen and understood. As a clinical psychologist I believe integrity and honesty are important values which I adhere to during by professional conduct. I am happy to provide safe space for people to discuss their mental health problems, without being judgmental.

While it takes courage for an individual to pursue mental help, it is equally important that cooperation is also available from the families, caregivers, and professionals to heal. Accessibility and community engagement are also key for me, ensuring that everyone can access mental health assistance, and ensuring through education, that the community is aware. In today’s fast-changing world, I am flexible in adopting both traditional and more advanced platforms to reach my clients. I believe in destigmatizing mental health discussions so that mor and more individuals feel comfortable and open up to discuss their problems.

Academic Background

I completed my BS Hons. in Applied Psychology from Lahore College from Women University (LCWU) in 2018. After studying LCWU Personality theories and Developmental psychology, the overall concept, my general curiosity about the nature of humans, somehow shifted to a more structured focus on how our minds change over time. I gradually became interested in Psychology. This motivated me to pursue Clinical Psychology studies at Bahria University (IPP), where I graduated with a Master’s degree in 2022. The real clinching factor that made my academic vocation into a clinically active and client-focused career was my experience in the MS Clinical Psychology program of IPP at Bahria University. The advanced clinical training in psychological assessment and psychopathology allowed me to delve into intricate mental health issues with diagnostic acuity. At the same time, I had intensive training in the use of evidence-based modalities (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapies, and Humanistic and Existential approaches) and began to move from contemplating psychological distress to actively working against it.

Clinical Experience

My experience has been a positive one both professionally and as a volunteer; it has directly influenced my clinical practice. I started in 2018 at Alzheimer’s Pakistan and monitored the patients of dementia and bipolar disease during door-to-door visits, conducted psychometric assessment and supported in assisting the caregivers of schizophrenia patients. This early exposure won me the Best Internship Award at LCWU and provided me with a solid foundation in community based mental health care. Between 2020 and 2023, I worked at Umeed-e-Nau Clinic, Institute of Professional Psychology, with more than 250 OCD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and suicidal clients. Used instruments such as MMPI and WAIS-IV to make a diagnosis and worked with physicians and caregivers to provide treatment.

Concurrently, I was a volunteer counsellor, organizing awareness activities in schools, universities, conducting personality assessment and providing pro-bono counselling to women and couples. Additionally, I was part of an online platform ‘Cast of Minds’ in 2023–2024, an organization that specializes in mental health services. I worked with clients who had serious self-destructive behaviours, ideations and depression. Through these experiences I have adapted, developed my clinical skills and deepened my understanding and dedication to the care of the individual and the betterment of the community. Most recently i April 2026, I joined ‘Reframing Perspectives’ as a clinical psychologist, where mental health services are offered by promoting psychological well-being for individuals, families and communities. I have assisted with many online and on-site therapy depression, self-esteem and behavioral challenges that are unique to children.

Online Sessions - How They Work

One of the objectives of my practice is to utilize online platforms to offer therapy in a more accessible and less restrictive manner. This helps me to offer therapy to individuals, couples, families and children, expanding my horizon to both local and international clients. My professional standards remain consistent whether I offer online or in person sessions.

My sessions are based on practical and scientific research methods such including but not limited to Dialectical/ Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, and mindfulness practices. Each session is customized based on the person’s unique needs.

I ensure that my sessions are grounded in structured guidance and subsequent follow-up plans. This helps clients in tracking progress and stay engaged in their therapy journey. Many of the clients, in their post-session feedback, have found online therapy sessions to be productive and useful since they eliminate the need for physical presence.
